Cognate with Ojibwe bakwezhigan (“bread, bannock, flour”), Plains Cree ᐸᐦᑵᓯᑲᐣ (pahkwêsikan, “bread, bannock, flour”), Fox pahkwêshikani (“bread, flour”), Miami pahkweešikani (“bread”), Montagnais pakueshikan (“bread”), Northern East Cree ᐲᐧᓵᔮᐃᐦᑯᓈᐤ (piiysaayaaihkonaaw, “bread”), Southern East Cree ᐸᐦᐧᑫᔑᑲᓐ (pahykeshikan, “bread, flour”).
