presidentiable (plural presidentiables)

1. (French politics) A presidential candidate considered to have a good chance of winning an election.
   • 1995, John Gaffney, Lorna Milne, French Presidentialism and the Election of 1995:

     The parties organise chiefly around two activities: choosing a 'presidentiable' and electing MPs. Normally, moreover, the 'presidentiable' must lead the party in both activities in order to minimise rivalry.
