Inherited from Old Galician-Portuguese çarron of uncertain origin. Maybe from a pre-Roman substrate of Iberia (compare Basque zorro (“sack”)).
Cognate with Galician zurrón, Mirandese çurron, Asturian and Spanish zurrón.
