Etymology
From Ottoman Turkish تفرقه (tefrika, “dividing into sections; discord”), from Arabic تَفْرِقَة (tafriqa), verbal noun of فَرَّقَ (farraqa, “to separate”). The publishing or literary sense appeared in the 19th century and the older senses are obsolete in modern Turkish.
