This verb describes the relationship between two or more people, while tegez denotes the approach of one person towards another. Hence when a symmetric (mutual) relationship is concerned, tegeződik may be preferred, while in case of an asymmetrical relationship (e.g. between a teacher and schoolchildren), only tegez can be used for the person of higher rank.
