Etymology
From the Old French volonte, voulonté, volunté, voulunté, volenté, from Latin voluntās (“will, desire, disposition toward”).[1] Equivalent to voulant + -té. Cognate with Occitan volontat, Spanish voluntad, Portuguese vontade, Italian volontà.[2]
