Inherited from Ottoman Turkish یونلتمك (yönültmek),[1] equivalent to yön (direction) + -el (verb-forming suffix) + -t (causative voice) + -mek. Cognate with Uzbek yo'naltirmoq and Azerbaijani yönəltmək.
