Questions tagged [micronutrients]

Questions about micronutrients - substances necessary for normal metabolism, growth and development, and regulation of cell functions, but needed only in very small amounts. Vitamins (such as A, B group, C, E, K etc.) and trace minerals (such as zinc, selenimum etc.) are micronutrients.

Micronutrients are essential for normal functioning of the body. They cannot be sinthethysed by the body, but have to be taken in through diet. Although they are necessary in small quantities, deficiency in micronutrients can severely affect health. Two groups of micronutrients are vitamins and trace minerals. Vitamins further consist of two groups: liposoluble and hydrosoluble. Liposoluble vitamins inclute: vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin E and vitamin K. Hydrosoluble vitamins include: vitamins of B group (i.g. thiamine - B1, riboflavin - B2 etc.) and vitamin C. Trace minerals include: iron, zinc, selenium, iodine and many others.
