Learned borrowing from Ancient Greek βιάζω (biázō, “to use violence, to force”). The forced sexual intercourse sense is from Byzantine Greek[1] and semantic loan from French violer.[2]

1. (transitive) to force, pressure

   Μην βιάζεις το παιδί, θα φάει όταν είναι έτοιμο.

2. (transitive) to rape, violate, ravish (to force sexual intercourse or other sexual activity without consent)
