Etymology

Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀉𑀘𑁆𑀘𑀸𑀯𑁂𑀤𑀺 (uccāvedi, to raise) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓𑁆𑀓- (-kka-), a verbal derivative of Sanskrit उच्च (ucca, lofty, high) (whence ऊंचा (ūñcā, high, tall). Compare Marathi उचकणे (ucakṇe).
