Etymology

From Angkorian Old Khmer kralā homa, kralā homma (literally court of sacrifices; sacrificial ground), from kralā (court; courtyard; ground; etc) + homa, homma (sacrifice; sacrificial ceremony), itself from Sanskrit होम (homa, oblation), referring to the precinct of a fire worship ceremony held before marching to war. Cognate with Modern Thai กลาโหม (gà-laa-hǒom).
