Possibly from either unattested *glitiz + *-rōną,[1] from *ǵʰlid-í-s, or *glitraz + *-ōną, from *ǵʰlid-ró-s, both from Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰleyd-, from *ǵʰley- (to shine).
