Proto-West Germanic
Etymology
Perhaps from Proto-Germanic *trukkōną, from earlier paradigm *trukkōþi ~ *trugunanþi with unexpected voicing assimilation, from pre-Proto-Germanic *dʰrugʰ-nā́-ti ~ *dʰrugʰ-un-ánti, iterative to *dreugan (“to deceive”).
